Sheridan Smith is about to don her deerstalker and brush off her magnifying glass as she starts the hunt for Britain’s Favourite Detective.
Coming to ITV later this year, the Gavin and Stacey star will front the new show, which will countdown the country’s favourite fictional crime-solving sleuths.
From classics like Agatha Christie’s Poirot and Miss Marple, to modern hits like Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock and Line of Duty’s AC-12 squad, she’ll be spoilt for choice.
Sheridan will join the series as its narrator, her first role since giving birth to her first child with fiancee Jamie Horn.
Joe Mace, ITV’s commissioning editor of entertainment, said: ‘Crime dramas have played a huge part in our TV viewing, producing the most iconic and best-loved television characters.
‘Britain’s Favourite Detective celebrates these TV legends and gives viewers the chance to relive some of the best TV moments of the last five decades.’
Sheridan previously thanked fans for the outpouring of love following the arrival of her little baby boy, saying that she had been ‘overwhelmed’ with messages.
Taking to Instagram, the star wrote: ‘I’d just like to say thank you so much! We have been so touched by all your lovely messages about the birth of our son.
‘I’ve finally gotten round to reading all of them and am bowled over by everyone’s kindness. It means the world.
‘Huge love to you all from the three of us. Xxx.’
The Cilla actress was last seen on our screens just a few weeks before the birth, when she starred as heavily pregnant Mel in ITV’s Isolation Stories.
Set during lockdown, the character was seen struggling with self-isolation in her house as well as her upcoming pregnancy – and viewers at the time praised Sheridan for her ‘powerful’ performance.
Britain’s Favourite Detective comes to ITV later this year.
